A peloton is that group/mass of cyclists you see on a road race, it may appear a mess to you but is infact very coordinated in how it works, and if it works well is the most efficient thing in a road race. There are basically 3 categories in a team: The Sprinters, The Climbers (I fall here) and The Pullers (The guys who lead the peloton in flats). When a peloton works well it can save the riders up to 50% in energy expended in a ride as they are saved from headwinds, crosswinds, the pullers do the work on flats, climbers climb and pull up on the hills and the sprinters generally are left to chase the breakaways and finish the race as they are the most protected and have saved much of their energy for the final sprints. Novice cyclists I usually note are the guys who rush to the front of the peloton ati wanashindana na wale wamezoea…biiiiiig rookie mistake, they wear out pretty fast and get dropped like a hot potato. We usually practice this along Southern bypass (Msa Rd-Kikuyu), Limuru Tea Circuit and Murang`a climbs…helps on race day to enter as a team and ride in discipline.

Drafting

Drafting is staying just a few inches of the guy ahead of you in the pack, if you can manage that without clanking his/her wheel and you end up saving a ton of effort consequently. Thing is in a team you always switch places as the leader will get tired so someone else pulls up to the front to pull.
Chasing this is simply pedalling quite fast to catch up with someone or a group ahead of you, expend quite a lot of energy for this.
Cadence This is simply your revolutions per minute on the crank, choose a suitable one to conserve your energy, minimize fatigue and good pace, use the gears to optimize this.
Wattage This is simply energy used over time and yes ni wattage ya stima it matters if you are racing
Bonking This is when you have exhausted the fuel reserves in your body by not having enough carbs in your body and hence find it impossible to continue, thus the day before a ride eat as much carbs as you can, spaghetti, pasta, eggs, honey…you will need the energy. Rehydrate on the road as you loose a lot of electrolytes along the way.
Off Saddling This is simply pushing your weight to the front wheel by getting of the saddle to have much more energy in pushing down the pedals, usually used for sprinting and climbing
Cycling Computer This is a computer that is attached to the handle bars with sensors on the wheels and/or pedals to measure speed, heart rate, wattage among a variety of other data.

Jembe is the biggest crank, hardest gear. Kacucu is the smallest gear, the easiest.
