@introvert and other mechanical engineers huku, nina swali nyeti. Two days ago, the “check engine” light showed on my dashboard. I had the problem diagnosed using a machine, and the problem was fixed. Apparently, one of the hooks that join some wires was broken and needed a replacement. The check engine light went off immediately and I drove over 100km that day. Yesterday, I drove to Kasarani and then to Two Rivers only for the light to come back on. I checked the hook (which was replaced) and everything was fine. Today, the light has not showed. I have driven over 50 kilometers just to confirm and the light did not show. What might have caused the light to come on yesterday and not today?
Check engine light is one of those silly container/generic errors
It can pretty much be anything, you would need to give us the error codes for us to tell you what’s wrong
Or it could be that loose hook is still not secured properly and needs certain conditions to be true for the problem to be replicated
How comes the engine light did not come on today? It was on yesterday. If I take it for another diagnostics test tomorrow, when the engine light is not on, will the problem be detected?
this is very correct. it goes on and off based on conditions that trigger it.
I recommend taking it back when check engine light is on
Okay. I will do that. The problem is, I dont know when the light will come back on. I have driven around the entire day and it did not show.
Sounds like a sensor issue. Contacts may change due to heat, dust, motion… What car is it?

No need to panic if you are not going out of town/remote areas
As long as you are within the city, you can drive into the autoshop nearest to you when the light comes up and get a diagnostic read/print out
No need of taking it back for the test. If you replaced the part that was causing the check engine light to go on, then deal with the part. Could be a loosely fitted or fake part after all.
Fungua bonnet, angalia kama engine iko. Once you shine ( or dim, depending on your political affiliation)your eyes on it, itajua and turn off the warning.
On a serious note, there are 1411 documented causes of the warning.
@amun pretty much summed it up.
Juzi ulikuwa diagnostics if I am not wrong ,iko wapi printout.
wasn’t that you?
My brother lost that receipt na nimejam sana juu ya hiyo story
Check engine yuletwa na vitu nyingi inaweza kuwa pia plugs au timingbelt pia …do some service on it
Neither will you know the day you will die
Naona ukilala msituni siku moja. Fix the problem permanently.
But I have to wait for the light to come back on so that niipeleke diagnostics iundwe
The light doesn’t need to be on when scanning. The computer stores all codes it encountered when the light was on. So a scan will still find those stored codes.
