the underbelly here is how the protests have led to so may lives lost now stop picking at us
Well…as response to protests go, I agree with you. Although, the folks at “human rights” industry are too generous with numbers and their figures can not be reliable, I understand that the toll is still concerning. But bear in mind that in northern Ethiopia city of Gonder the protesters were armed, as almost every one is armed in Northern Ethiopia.
P.S…I pick on you, because I like my brothers…
Everyone is armed? Is it because you border a hostile state to the north?
No. It’s a cultural thing. In Amhara region Especially in north western part having weapon, once you are 16 is normal. The same in Afar region in north East. They almost don’t use it at authority figures, though with some exception. They didn’t use it this time, either. Unfortunately, the government panicked and a bit over reacted. Here is one of their protests with their guns…

I only see one gun
Ha ha…ok…for your satisfaction…here is more… (Video) (Don’t worry. They were shooting only overhead to the sky)…
Woyane
:D:D:D:D Do you know what “Woyane” means?
Woyanne = (Ge’ez, Amharic, Tigrigna) ወያነ - Revolutionary (noun)
So, buddy. It is not a bad thing to be called Woyane…
depends on who is doing the calling
@Jos Landos, Ethiopia is a great country, an economic giant that is respected by even our own president! You are developing exponentially and you must understand that that is an evident fact. If you can peruse through our posts on this village, you will find numerous posts about the great strides your country is taking in infrastructure development, perhaps better, if not equal to Kenya’s own projects!
But do you know why Kenya is better than you? The civil freedoms that we enjoy are not similar to any other country within our neighborhood! And those huge roads we are building are not only being laid in the the capital only! The villages and rural areas are also being transformed as we speak!
This in Turkana county

Now @Jos Landos, you need to remember that even after so much has been done, we are telling our leaders that this is not enough! Mpaka we eradicate poverty in our country entirely! Not in some places only, but every part of the country! And that’s should be what you people in Ethiopia are telling your government! That even as the grand roads and railways are being constructed, life for the masses should be made affordable!
One 9mm bullet costs 90/= not sure how much a 7.6 one costs. How come people who dont seem that rich can fire away so much cash:D:D
They love their guns…it’s a main thing in northern Ethiopia. They sell their land, their home their property to have guns…it’s part of our complicated history. We have so many faces and several sides of one coin…
