Thats exactly what happens when you venture into a business with a low-entry barrier. Anybody with 200-300k can rent out a 1 bed apartment on Thika road, throw in some basic furnishings and list it as an AirBnB in the many facebook, tiktok and instagram groups circulating around. It was just a matter of time, just like M-PESA shops, the business became flooded. Saa hii ata landlord wengi hawataki hio shughuli kabisa in their property.
And given the notoriety of Kenyans when it comes to misusing what isn’t theirs, good luck to you if u have any expensive electronics or kitchen fittings in your property. There are people who specifically rent bnbs to steal petty stuff luke towels, spare duvets, pillows, utensils, throw blankets etc. Wengine wanabadilisha parts of their fridge, washing machine and microwave with yours. Niggas will take you to the cleaners, others will run away after booking the apartment, paying for one or 2 days and then promising the rest after u have trusted them, wanaingia nyasi after day 5.
In my opinion kama hau-target upmarket clients in leafy suburbs and expats, hio biz lazima itakuchoma at some point kwanza if it is a low-income area.
