By KEN MACHARIA, NAIROBI, Kenya, July 13 – Centum and partners have officially handed over the new block of Mathari Primary School to Nairobi County. The rehabilitation of the school, which includes building 32 classrooms, a library, a dining hall, an ablution block and a computer lab cost Sh165 million. While handing over the new wing of the School to Nairobi Governor Dr. Evans Kidero, Centum Chief Executive James Mworia said several partners including architects and engineers offered their services pro bono for the benefit of the community.

“Two Rivers and Centum Investments are known for excellence and it is our hope and prayer that the New Mathari Primary will be a centre of excellence for the 1,500 students,” Mworia said.

Nairobi County donated the 4 acre land in which the new school is now located, with seven companies joining hands to build the school in one and a half years. The seven firms include Boogertman + Partners, YMR, Garth Consulting, Maiteri and Associates, Avic construction, JHWC and ICDC, who did the project at cost. Centum Director Dr. Chris Kirubi has urged more organizations to contribute their resources and skills to improve the standards of education in the country.

“As Centum, we don’t want to walk away after we are done (with the construction). We want to stay with you and grow with the school. We will be asking the administrators to give us two seats in the board so that we can continue contributing to the growth of this institution,” Dr. Kirubi said.
