Breaking news on 1st June 2018: Mary Ng’ethe, Alexander Musee, Sammy Kirui and John Gakuo are among prisoners who’ve received a presidential pardon. The president, during his Madaraka Day speech, announced his intention to pardon “petty offenders” as a way of decongesting prisons. To qualify for the pardon, one must have served at least a day of their term and exhibited “good behaviour”. What are the odds they will actually spend their entire sentence in prison?
Assuming that they each still had 50 million of the loot, when they complete their sentences (if they don’t appeal), that 50 million will effectively have been laundered. The law should seek the seizure of assets, a fine and restitution.
