Radio Africa seems to not want to accept that they are in the downward part of the business cycle. Radio is no longer a trendy medium. Barely anyone has a radio show as part of their daily/weekly schedule. Radio is now just background noise on your way to and from work. That makes for a nice small business, which is where radio stations should accept they are.

Maina isn’t going anywhere. Unlike women, men are hired and retained based on merit alone. That makes it 10X harder to fire them. Wanawake wote kwa media are partly hired based on their looks and wakifika late 30s and beyond they get replaced by younger ones.
The likes of Maina and Jeff aren’t going anywhere because they are paid using the money they generate, and that money has nothing to do with their looks. Women’s advantage in their 20s becomes a disadvantage later in life.
At 25, a woman will get hired 50% because of her skills, and 50% because her looks bring more eyeballs. At 40, the looks are gone so she is fucked. A man is hired 100% based on skills. At 50, the skills are still there and he has decades of experience. Men and women are not the same. Men’s kryptonite is physicality which starts to decline at 65 and even then they can still work part time in occupations that don’t require intense physical labor.
A semi-skilled man can’t make money so he can’t get hired. A semi-skilled woman can make a lot of money if she is hot enough. So, in the media industry, you have highly skilled men, and semi-skilled women who are easy on the eye. But there is a catch - looks fade with time but skills don’t. Also, the market hardly values highly skilled women in media and that’s why you will never see an ugly woman reading the 7PM news on TV.
