Let me play the devils advocate. Even if you ban sport betting companies, it does not necessarily mean people will stop betting. No one is forcing 1 million people to log into the sites daily and placing their bets. Sportpesa didn’t come up with an original idea, they only made betting easier. I remember almost a decade ago a friend used to bet on such sites but he was complaining the inconvenience was that he had to convert his Kshs to $ to bet on the UK/US sites. Sportpesa incorporated Mpesa to it, took years to brand/advertise/gain acceptance and it took off. Now at least government is getting funds from taxing them at (*50%) than letting all that cash flow untaxed.
