This is what DK Metcalf attempted to do today. Olympic qualifiers have started. You get automatic qualification if you break 10:05 s for the 100m and you move into knockout stages if you break 10:20s.
Metcalf plays American Football (similar to Rugby). He run 4.33 seconds for 40 yard dash in his tryouts to make it into the league. Usain Bolt run it at 4:22s. This fact coupled with heavy training made him believe he can hang with the worlds finest sprinters.
And he did. Bear in mind he is a towering 6 ft 4 and 108kg.
Heres his run. 2nd from the right. A respectable 10:37s.
Yes. They are professional runners. They do it for a living. He is not. So for him to clock 10:37s is a fete of its own.
If you watch closely, he has a poor start off the block. His feet just float in the air. Runners plant their feet down to use the ground for propulsion. Plus his body just wiggles side to side through the run. Body weight needs to be around 80kg not 109 kg. These are things pros work on eliminating to make their energy conversion more efficient and hence higher speed.
This can only be faster than women. Many Kenyan sprinters have surpassed this without breaking a sweat. Mark Otieno, Mike Mokamba, Ferdinand Omanyala are all sub 10:10s sprinters over the 100m distance.
NB: Mark Otieno is faster in 60m dash than Usain Bolt.
All professional sprinters. They eat sleep sprinting. This guy is a rugby(Am) player that decided to take them on with little training. As stated above you can see many flaws in his running style. Think about it, do you know the diet of a runner vs a rugby player. You will be shocked at the contrast. Very few human beings can break 10:50. And even breaking 10:20 for a pro is no joke. They break a sweat and their bodies to even do that. They don’t always match their personal bests.
Running backs will be too bulky. Remember they have to fight off tackles. You need massive muscles to do that. There’s only one RB who had that kind of speed - Chris Johnson.
