Baba Raila Odinga was a good friend to Uhuru Kenyatta. After the 2022 elections, when Baba fell down due to a heart attack, Uhuru Kenyatta was the first person to be called. He stood with Raila Odinga like a brother not as a former president, not as a politician, but as a man who understood what Raila meant to Kenya.
The reason the Luo never attended William Ruto’s swearing-in at Kasarani Stadium was not arrogance it was love. It was respect. They could not celebrate when their father, their hope, their symbol of justice had been wounded. Convincing Luos to support Ruto was never easy for Raila, but he tried. He tried because he believed in peace, he believed in unity, and he believed that Kenya could heal. But when he did, political brokers felt bad. They wanted him bitter, not peaceful. They wanted him angry, not forgiving. They thrived in division, because unity threatens those who feed on chaos.
Today, Baba is taking his final trip to Kisumu and finally Bondo the land where he was born, where he rose, and where I personally voted to send him. It’s not just a journey of farewell; it’s a return of the spirit to the soil that raised him. We must respect Kalonzo Musyoka for the support he gave us, for refusing to betray the movement when others did. He remained loyal, steady, and true when loyalty had become rare.
Opiyo Wandayi does not speak for Luos or the Luo Nation. His opinions are his, and his alone. The Luo Nation speaks through its actions, its unity, its unbroken faith in justice and truth. Yes, Luos cannot remain in opposition forever. We have carried the weight of resistance for too long. Now, we join the rest of Kenya not to beg for a seat at the table, but to lead a new awakening. To save Kenya from poor leadership, from deceit, from the greed that has eaten our country’s soul.
Today, when Baba’s body reaches Kisumu, every heart in Nyanza will cry not because he is gone, but because he gave everything and still asked for nothing. His dream must not be buried with him. Kenya must rise again united, fearless, and awaken.
