Buying a fridge

The other day I walked into a local supermarket window shopping for a fridge. They all looked the same to me except for size differences. That’s when it hit me I know nothing about these gadgets and should do my homework.

Two weeks later and I now know fridge capacity is measured in litres and the bigger the better but also the more expensive. I also know a little about digital inverter compressors, no-frost, twin cooling and multi-airflow inventions as some of the few features.

For a budget of 70K, what are the irreducible minimums in terms of capacity, features, energy rating etc? Which brand is the best?

Depends really with your preferences

  1. Twin door or not
  2. Upper or lower freezer
  3. Brand(for serviceability and warranty)
  4. Energy consumption

We have a history with Samsung

Some freeze to even -20 without making ice, i do not know the technology behind it

Double door, top freezer. The best I’ve seen are from Samsung, LG & Bosch. I know nothing about energy consumption.

Probably what they call no frost technology

My suggestion:
Go for an Inverter Compressor fridge (not cheap) but way more effective than the normal compressors and normally with 10 year warranty.
Get a large capacity one door fridge. 2 doors means a separate inverter for each compartment hence increasing the risk and cost if it breaks down. 2 separate inverters also means higher electricity consumption. My Favourite is LG but kuna cheaper brands that are ok kama Haiyaa (not the spelling nliwacha Naivas wakiwa authorised dealers I dunno about now) or whirlpool had one since 2005. I recommend window shopping extensively because hii ni season ya mega offers especially Online na utapata a solid one for a deal.
Happy shopping.

Asante omwami

Hii technology ilinibamba sana after buying my new fridge. (FROM GAMBLING WINS!!!) Enzi za fridge kujaa snow unalemewa kutoa kuku iko back bench are gone.

Kama huna Frost free Fridge, uko down kama tumbo ya nyoka! Ekelea bets weekend:D:D:D:D

This is joking

frost free mambo yote banae

Unafanyia nini fridge ya 70k? Bought LG ya around 130k i think na sijawahi ona major need, just buy the cheap 30k chinese one ya non-frost blaah blaah.

As u have been advised. First thing to look for is Non Frosting. which means stima ikilost ile ice iko kwa freezer haitayeyuka.
Second and most important check for ERC ratings. Ukipata kitu iko na more starts the better. Sticker imebandikwa hapo mbele no need of buying a fridge that will consume token za pesa ya Demio in 1yr.
Avoid cheap funny shit they are more likely to break down at sometime. Fridge sio kama phone utakiambia luthuli kubuy ingine. U want something reliable and longlasting. Usindanganywe na salesman na warranty ata kama ni ya 5yrs am sure u don’t want something u will be returning for servicing every 2months. So avoid Heir.Whirlhoop.Bruhm.Hotpoint. and the rest. Go for either Samsung LG or Bosch and have a piece of mind. U knw the kafeeling u get when u buy something from riverroad u just want to get home fast and test it and test all functions. Well ukibuy recognized brands hautakua na hio kauoga

Kwani wewe ni birrionaire

Nunua Samsung ya 50k itakuserve vizuri

Fridge ya 30K ni kabambe ya hiyo sector. Even if you find a good one, the capacity will be too small. A good fridge should have enough capacity to last me ten years.

Bought mine Solstar single door @40k, ten years strong bila shida. Shida yake ni kumwaga maji stima ikipotea for more than 7 hrs

Ramtons also do a solid job

Samsung, Whirlpool, LG.

Other than that, good luck.

Whirlpool single door, 7yrs still strong
