Ladies and gentlemen, I’ve had a wonderful time in this village. I was almost addicted to the village. I’ve ‘known’ you for a few years, and I greatly appreciate your contribution to the society.
Sometime last year, I shared a story (I can’t locate the link, but I think I was responding to another Talker’s post) how I had worked for a certain company for many years and how my position was disgracefully eliminated (re-assigned overseas). I graciously took another less paying position to cater for my family as I tried to figure my way out. It’s been a rough year for my wife and my girls because I decided to go back to school and try something else. It’s been tough working, schooling and taking care of my family’s needs (I’m almost 40!!). But I’ve managed to secure another degree in cybersecurity, in addition to various Comptia and Cisco certifications.
Towards the end of 2017, I applied for a federal job at the National Institute of Standards and Technology. I did two interviews and underwent a thorough background clearance (criminal and security) check. I was offered the position, thought about it for a a while, and finally accepted. I’ll be starting the job next week.
Unfortunately, that means that I’ll have to give up almost all my online social life. Tough thing to do, but I have to sacrifice for my kids. I will follow the village occasionally as a guest, but I may have to retire my handle.
