I agree. The real reason buildings collapse is Corruption. I suspect that the foundations of the building was built with cheap materials to cut costs and this is the result. There is also a market for counterfeit materials and sometimes scrap metal is used instead of steel. The construction engineer should be arrested immediately

Could be the ripple effect of those netanyahu bombs

Aside from a few buildings in Westlands and the CBD, nearly every building in Nairobi above 5 floors would experience some form of damage rendering it either unsafe or simply collapse.
To be honest ,ALL OF PIPELINE would go down. So would most disorderly highrises in Eastlands. So would much of Ruiru and basically all highrises in Kiambu county.

Another issue is fake cement and the worst part is, even cement being sold at the factory gate is sometimes counterfeit but Kenyans will still go for the cheapest brands without asking questions and thinking they are so clever and the people buying expensive cement from the likes of Bamburi are stupid.

Nothing is more frightening than this: there will be no warning

Indeed Pipeline seems like a disaster waiting to happen. Who will save us? Ruto? Sakaja? Kindiki?

How was it even allowed to reach that height. ON CLAY SOIL NO LESS!!!

Hii ndio kitu nahofia. Kutakuwa na 5-figure death rates. Unakumbuka when Turkey was hit na in a street all their govt buildings zilikuwa vumbi except one, the EU embassy which was built to EU standards. Our houses are shit.

Buildings from Mombasa, Nakuru to Kisumu would collapse as building regulations and inspections are not enforced. Many low-rise buildings including extensions would collapse.

An earthquake estimated at magnitude 7.8 - 8.1 occurred in the 1920s. The round mud houses withstood the shaking, while many stone structures collapsed. The country has poor seismograph station coverage, and the governance and leadership priorities are upside down.

Kisumu and Mombasa. YES!
Nakuru. It actually depends. Big up to the Asian community there. They actually build their structures to withstand earthquakes and it is why it is rare you find their building taller than 7 floors. I remember one actually clashing with the county stating although the country wanted Nakuru to have taller buildings, it was too expensive for him to build a supertall building and he even presented a survey showing his area has too much volcanic ash to support a tall building.
But watu wa Murima!..Problems!!
Mombasa is actually so bad that a magnitude 7 automatically brings down even 3 floor structures. It is not so much that they are built poorly, it is that they are MAINTAINED poorly.
Houses made of limestone are meant to be constantly reinforced with concrete or better yet, you just dont use it as the building stones and more importantly they should never be constantly exposed to water damage. Mombasa is full of houses where the limestone is being eaten away and releasing a black chaff .Those houses are very fragile.
Also that condemned building near Nyali Bridge (Waffle Tower). During an earthquake, that building could even damage the bridge itself.
