B.R.I.C.S AND THE FUTURE
BRICS is an acronym for Brazil, Russia, India, China and South African economic block. Watch it grow.
These countries are among the world’s ten largest countries by population, area, and GDP. They are of a great concern and significance in the current world economic order and political affairs.
Their mission is to promote peace, security, development and cooperation among themselves and to advance their economic interests and to recruit other willing and approved nations especially in Africa and other third world countries.
Because Russia, India and China are “senior” partners such an organization would definitely be viewed as anti~American and other Western nations interests. NATO and other European economic interest groups would therefore be in competition with BRICS and therefore “virtual” enemies.
What is however gratifying is the growing membership and influence of this emerging BRICS economic Alliance where already countries like Nigeria, Algeria, Egypt, Sudan and Zimbabwe in Africa have shown great interest in joining. Most Middle East and Asian countries are lining up to join and with Pakistan and others ready to join now.
Africa will have access to new large markets and expansion of its economies and job creation.
The BRICS Economic Block is likely to encompass a growing number of African countries which may influence for the formation of a new international currency in lieu of the American dollar. BRICS appears determined to ditch the American controlled financial and economic institutions like the IMF or World Bank and their affiliates by forming their own. They think that these institutions have been biased towards American interests and treating others as second class citizens. This must worry the Americans. The Americans will, however, fight to the last man to keep their economic superpower position.
The presence of Capitalism and Socialism/Communism in Africa has been of a great concern in the world. This has divided the world into the rich and the poor and promoted international military conflicts, in one way or the other.
Africa has been caught up into a web of a crisis because it is rotating between the two Isms.
Years back our early politicians had founded what they called African Socialism while others believed in Scientific Socialism. Later they agreed that there was nothing like African socialism and abandoned the use of the term. This influence of socialism was largely from the association of Africa with China and the then USSR now the Federation of Russia.
In place of colonialists propped in the group of the proclaimed “saints”, the people who were not tainted with colonialism in or the scramble for Africa.
Both the Russians and Chinese helped in the liberation struggle of Africa by placing their resources at the disposal of many struggling peoples of Africa. They supplied arms and materials for the liberation, and helped financially. For independent African countries, they signed various military, economic and social agreements as the Capitalist west watched at an akimbo position.
This is what sharpened the new concept of Neo~Colonialism, ( the last stage of imperialism) the giving of nominal political independence to Africa by the colonizers on one hand but taking our economic power yet with another hand. This was a great wave of deceit and betrayal of the African independence.
BRICS is here to stay and may moderate the discipline of our world nations. Let us wait and watch.
