Tea and coffee gives farmers a long term stable and regular income. Planting food crops like maize would never give such incomes.

There’s a huge problem with subsistence farming. Your cost per unit area of land is triple that of a commercial farm. As a result, you need up growing very little because you don’t have much money to maximize your production per acre.
Your pawpaws grown in Brazil cost ksh 30/piece. A mama growing them in Uasin Gishu has to cost them at ksh 100/piece or she will go broke.
The government should invest in industrialization and leave farming to commercial entities.

I think the problem is not growing cash crop but managing our local crops such as maize. Unapata kenya still grows maize using old traditional manual labour. Na our farmers are not liberal, they want to stick to conservative methods of farming. Ndio unapata inafika time unaskia Kenya hakuna mahindi ya kutosha.

I think there is an oversupply of a lot of products such as Coffee beans, I would say 60 % of it is thrown away. That land should be utilised for other purposes.
