I received a call today at about 10am. It was some Kale-sounding dude claiming he’d sent me shs200 by mistake via mpesa. Since I hadn’t seen any MPESA message, I assumed the nigga was a Kamiti conman. Heneway, I told him to let me confirm my Mpesa balance, and if it was 200 bob richer, I’d promptly send back the cash. After ending the call, I checked my balance, and it was exactly as it was last night (shs3095 to be exact, namumunya 9k salo polepoooleee).
I checked the balance 2 more times just to confirm, and it was still 3095. Hapo I had no choice but to assume the fucker was a conman. I blocked him immediately on Truecaller. About 20 mins later, I received an automated call from Safcon, asking me to confirm the reversal of shs.200. These conmen always have new tricks up their sleeves, so I hang up and call customer care, seeking clarity. I ask the lady on the other end why I’m being asked to reverse money I hadn’t received. She tells me I received it, it’s just that I didn’t know…hmmmm??? Probably that ghaseer canceled the transaction within 25 seconds, that’s why I didn’t receive the money.
I’m just wondering why I got involved in this whole mess. If someone cancels a transaction, why do I need to confirm a reversal?? Now the guy who wrongly sent me money thinks I refused to refund it, while at some point I also thought he was a conman. Bonobos have officially taken over nthe ngreen njayant.
