You thought you were Billy Badass until you met Billy Badass – Eddie Griffin
This is a phrase that aptly describes a lady called Wamuyu, who is a Corinthian and the chairlady of the Madaraka Traders Association in Madaraka Market in Makongeni, Thika.
Wamuyu doesn’t give a rat’s ass who you are, if she thinks you need to be slapped, she will slap living lights out of your ugly face. If she thinks you are from another county and so you don’t deserve to sell your product in Madaraka, she will come and stomp on whatever you are selling and damage your goods while shouting in your ear and there is nothing you can do about it.
She was also the point man for Alice Nganga during last year’s campaigns and if anything, she spoilt for Alice big time. A case in point is when Wainaina Jungle brought a grader to level the posta/phase four road and Wamuyu came and disrupted the whole thing, almost had the driver lunched and the grader burned. The police were able to repel the mob that had been incited. Although nobody would confront her for fear of getting beaten to a pulp, murmurs were doing round amongst the people and they swore to teach Alice a lesson at the ballot. They did.
Out of this and many other incidences, Wamuyu was arrested and charged in court for incitement and released on bond. However, maybe out of her arrogance, she has not been attending court and so recently the law caught up with her and akawekwa ndani. She has been fighting to be released on bond again and the judge ruled that she deposits her passport with court and post a bond of 5M or bail ya 2m with a surety of the same amount.
Traders in Madaraka Market are celebrating her woes, albeit chini ya maji happy that her arrogance has come back to bite her ass.
During mention/ hearing dates for her case ( she allegedly burnt down the house and vehicle of a then sitting MCA), the courts would be full of her supporters coming to follow up on her case. Well, mkono wa Sheria ni mrefu.
The hearing of a case in which a Kiambu MCA has sued a market trader over the torching of her house in 2015 has kicked off at the Thika Magistrates Court.
Kamenu Ward MCA Elizabeth Muthoni Hussein has accused Mary Wamuyu Gatumu, a trader at Thika’s Madaraka market, of wilfully and unlawfully setting fire to her house, her vehicle and her business premises leading to losses amounting to Sh150 million.
Ms Muthoni’s house was burnt on November 22, 2015, a day after the Makadara market was torched by unknown people the previous night.
The MCA, who was the first to testify, told the court that her house was burnt down by an irate mob that accused her of being aware of the people behind the burning of the Madaraka market.
“It was on a Sunday at around 9.45am. I was preparing to go to church after my children left for Sunday school when a call came through warning me that there were some people who were buying fuel in jerry cans at a local petrol station with the intention of causing harm on me,” Ms Muthoni told court. OVERHEARD WAMUYU’S VOICE
Ms Muthoni told the court that the caller put his phone on speaker so she could hear what the group was chanting in loud voices.
That was how she overheard Wamuyu’s voice saying she wanted her either dead or alive.
She told the court that she immediately ran out of the house and hid in a corner of a house that was still under construction, waiting for the worst to happen.
