Police in Mombasa are holding a woman who was found trafficking narcotics at the Likoni ferry channel on Saturday.

The 45-year-old woman was arrested as she tried to cross from Mombasa island towards Likoni mainland South with a luggage which looked a like a bundle of second hand clothes.

Confirming the incident, Likoni OCPD Willy Simba said the woman objected to be searched by officials at the inspection area before she was forced to stop for inspection.

It emerged that she was carrying a bundle of 350 rolls of bhang.

“The 'cannabis sativa’ was rolled in three different polythene bags and the woman could not reveal the owner of the luggage nor where it was from,” said Simba.

Recently, the OCDP said police have instructed security agents at the Likoni ferry channel to be vigilant so that traffickers and thieves do not easily escape through the channel.

“We are still interrogating the woman until she discloses the owner of the luggage since we want to establish if she is the rightful owner of the luggage before we take her to court,” Simba said.
