I’ve thought about this individual quote for two weeks now…
“Betting is replacing Religion as the opium of the masses” (Ranks S, 2016).
Let’s talk…the main role of religion is to give us hope. Without hope, man is as good as dead. People put their hope in religion for a better tomorrow and a better afterlife. While betting doesn’t give you hope on the latter, it gives realistic hopes on the former…a better tomorrow.
I love sports betting and the thrill it gives. I’ve heard people being negative about it but then I ask myself, if I win a jackpot would the church refuse a tithe from me?
The only pitfall about betting is problematic betting or gambling…if you cannot control yourself and have reached a level where you borrow money to stake, then that is a problem. Be wise, stake what you are able to do without, a small percentage and learn your sport. It’s not wise staking 500 when your worth is 1000/=
For football there are good sites like sportpesa, betin Kenya and elitebet. I’ve come to prefer betin because of their good mobile interface and live betting feature. @Web Dev
Gambling addiction is going to be the next social disorder in Kenya. Some will make it Big time , Some will tell stories of how they lost life savings on gambling loans etc.
It’s a double edged sword. However, not everyone who drinks is an alcoholic…there are individuals with an addictive personality disorder that makes them more prone to being addicted to several vices. The main reason why you lose in betting is simply financial management and poor self control.
There are people who are living off sports betting and in U.K most people bet on football and horses. The only negative effect of betting addiction is losing money due to lack of financial management I repeat…check your stakes and returns and see if you are making it or not. If you lose consistently, don’t try to salvage your big losses…just quit.
