Basic Responsibilities of a Government

“For the NPP to tell us they have constructed roads, hospitals, bridges, schools and other projects is an exercise in mediocrity. Every government does these” - John Mahama of Ghana (2008).

It is the duty of the government to give these things : Infrastructure, Security, Law and Order, Justice. The government building a road is not a basis upon which to campaign for votes.

Important yardsticks upon which to hold your government accountable include :

  • What did they promise and have they delivered ama wamefika wapi.
  • The basic functions that it is supposed to do, how well and efficient has it executed them

Respond objectively bila kutaja Raira

Alafu kuna ng’ombe zinaitwa The Nairobi City Council. Kazi ni kuhangaisha business people, landlords, collecting levies yet they deliver 0. There is this intersection to where I stay kuna fala ameachilia sewage inakuja kujaza junction. Amelipa hongo haguziki. Kanjo imekanyagia. Tukijitolea kufix, Kanjo hawataki. Sa unashindwa…Si Uhunye aamue akue kama magufuli siku mbili tatu hivi.

Every time I read a newspaper with a heading like e.g “PRESIDENT TOURS WESTERN AND COMES WITH GOODIES” I just facepalm.

Goodies being mentioned here include hospitals, building of roads etc.

Africa/Kenya has a long way to go.

@gashwin newspaper is a business . If they publish this to get some money from political parties what’s the problem. After all they are here to make business. They might buy a whole page talking about their manifesto…no problem with that

It’s sad, during the nyayo era many regions were denied development bcoz they were anti nyayo…Hio hio central Kenya watu wengi waliumia bcoz walikuwa anti nyargen

An organization must report back to its owners. We elect a guy not for building roads but for using our money effectively to improve our lives. Sitting in nakuru and I cant see many roads being built it satisfies my curiosity to know my money is building a road in Navakholo. No wonder Mahama was walloped

Mahama built roads more than jubilee combined. And just before elections he unveiled a statue of kwame… but he still lost. Reason : Ghanaian being the most democratic country so far in Africa, it’s citizens knew it’s their right to have development and not favor. …
Let me make it simple. …they are building those roads with Ghanaian taxes not mahamas pocket money. …

Hope we agree first of all that is not favors.is their duty. My instincts tell me you aren’t here in Kenya:have you seen Obama going to open a highway and ask Americans to vote for him again? ?

shut up sometimes. Mahama bought a Porsche 911 Turbo to use to attend football matches in Accra. their currency(cedi) is collapsing coz of massive corruption in the cocoa industry. former industrial areas like Takoradi and Sekondi still need roads and a new rail. please dont use west Africa as a benchmark for good governance
