BARLEY vs. WHEAT

Most people consider barley and wheat to be the same but they are two different types of grasses. In Kenya we grow both, barley is mainly used for beer, perhaps we could begins using it more as a food source, is widely used just like rice and is makes a good health breakfast porridge.

Barley is used in livestock fodder as well as in to brew beer; is a tougher grass and can also make carpets and paper.
Wheat has a high commercial value, a lot of things can be made from it, which includes flour or breads, pasta, biscuits, pancakes, livestock feed and also alcohol. However, wheat must be milled before cooking, while barley can be cooked easily as rice.

Barley has many benefits, is high in carbohydrates, fats, proteins, dietary fibre, has many vitamins including Vitamin B as well as iron, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, zinc, potassium, riboflavin and folate.
Wheat also has a high nutritional value; it has proteins, fats, carbohydrates and dietary fibre as well as iron, magnesium, vitamin B, calcium, folate, zinc, manganese, potassium and starch.
