Salvation is through a relationship with Jesus Christ, not going to church, so he has a point. Many of these churches are just scams anyway.
The bible actually states that you should work hard so that you are not a burden to other people.

Faith without action is dead. You have to actually put in the work (including the dirty work, to evolve your civilisation.) The Egyptians were advanced because they had plenty of slaves to do the heavy lifting (sometimes literally) leaving the smart people to do the smart things.
Africa’s decline in my view, started with the wide adoption of Christianity.. which in my view, was misconstrued as a ‘pray, wait and see’ type of religion. We will not pass this challenge until we put in the same effort that went into building the slave empires.
