That’s the role of foreign interests (e.g. Museveni, American lobby groups), wealthy local businessmen, aspiring governors, MPs etc, …

It’s an open secret that Mt. Kenya business heavyweights financed Kibaki’s 2007 & Uhuru’s 2013 & 2017 campaigns, and that the UAE financed a portion of Ruto’s 2022 campaign.
It’s also an open secret that aspiring governors, senators and MPs must contribute financially to the presidential ticket. Especially incumbents.
Baba was notorious for never dipping into his personal wealth for campaigns, unlike Uhuru.

Do you know that Raila never used to give money in campaigns until 2014. It’s one of the reasons he kept losing. It’s only after handshake that he started giving money. Raila was a purist.
