I have a different theory to this having investigated the pre-colonial times of several communities in Africa and seen a pattern.
Back in the day only the wickedest of Africans would make it. Any clever or creative young man would be crashed by village elders or chiefs. This made growth intellectually impossible because intellects are always rebellious in nature and ancient times required everyone to be complicit. Most of the council of elders or chiefs were ran by families of witch-doctors or had witch-doctors as advisors. The truth is Africa suffered from historic injustice, the same applies to this day. An African will take pride in seeing his fellow African suffering and prefers jealousy instead of fair competition - these is evident today through such things as ‘Luos vs Kikuyus’, ‘Yorubas vs Ibos’, ‘Zulu vs Khosa’, etc.
India also suffered from this, that’s why despite having scientific knowledge and Mathematics, they never did anything with that knowledge until the Mzungu paid a visit.
