Watching the debate on NTV and the lady representing the civil society groups commented on the mixing of dna from different animals as being akin to creation a process that should be left to God.
WTF, who funded todays protests against GMOs, are churches behind these NGOs
It doesn’t matter who’s behind the protests. What’s your personal opinion on GMOs? Would you happily consume them?
why not, I just think they should be labeled to give people an option. The problem with these opposing guys is they have no scientific backing, usilete hearsay and you religious beliefs as an arguement for a law that will affect everybody
one of the reasons to oppose GMOs is that they make it possible to patent plants. Think about that.
GMO main issue is that we don’t have regulation to protect consumers from potential genetical manipulation. There is no problem at the entry point
Why choose poor Africans for the first large-scale human trials. What will happen if something goes wrong knowing that our gods took a leave a long time ago. Have we exhausted normal production technologies to necessitate GMOs? And again, don't you think American firms are pushing the GMO agenda as they angle for business. Before we adopt GMOs, more capable countries ought to do so on a large scale. Our fears may be unfounded but the risks far outweigh the benefits. If China, a country that does not let opportunities pass by, has not adopted GMOs broadly, don't you think there is more to be learnt. If we start using genetically modified maize, it means that me and my people will be feeding the stuff twice a day for 365 days in a normal year. No other GMO item has been consumed at this scale and scope anywhere in the world.
Contrary to what experts would like to have you believe, the problem with agriculture in Africa has more to do with rigged market structures than anything else. That explains why cash crop farmers are by far the least beneficiaries in the production chain. Making such farmers grow more would only make them poorer.
Ditto Monsanto. Read up on some of the unscrupulous techniques and tricks that they’ve used even locally. A few years back there was a series featured by The E.A. Standard over the same.
genesis 1:26.
25God made the beasts of the earth after their kind, and the cattle after their kind, and everything that creeps on the ground after its kind; and God saw that it was good. 26Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” 27God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.…
This is what I’m talking about, hearsay. Africa is the last frontier when it comes to GMO manenos. Looking at the amount of land under GMO foods, this countries lead, USA, Brazil, India, China, Mexico, Argentina, Australia, S.A, Canada.
This is a different discussion, that I too believe should be looked into. As much as I support patents and intellectual property, if a bee fertilises my crop using your genetically engineered crop, my crop should still remain mine.
I don’t support that either. If we can genetically engineer our maize to have vitamins in it, why shouldn’t we accept that, the poor kids whose only meal consists of maize and countable beans served in school will have better health. If we can have an engineered maize that cannot be infected with aflatoxin, why not use it. I don’t understand why guys are okay with eating insecticides and not GMOs
BTW, this is one of those loosing battles, can be compared to guys opposing Galileo’s ideas of the earth rotating around the sun,
Though there are no gmo for now, we are all consuming gmo imported as processed food. As long as other countries grow gmo we will all consume gmo. It only prudent for us to adopt the technology and benefit like the rest. We can not live in isolation, whether we will grow them or not our crops will still be contaminated through cross pollination
Rogue religious leaders have done more harm to the masses in this world than GMO food will do in a million years
More than 90% of the GMO crops grown in these countries are for non-human use while the remainder appear in food products in small quantities. In africa, one of the main targets for GMO technology is the maize crop, which is heavily consumed by a sizable population in Sub-sahara Africa. Whereas I do acknowledge that GMOs could be the revolution of the century, it is morally wrong to let the weakest guy wade in first while we have much stronger fellows.
The problem with G.M.Os is that people don’t understand them. Crossbreding is a form of genetic modification that we have been practicing for years. Those Oranges you see in supermarkets with bright orange coats are G.M.Os. When people think of genetic modification they usually picture labs and petri dishes. It’s not always like that. In fact we don’t do much if it and when we do, it’s very precise and well intentioned.
The issue of parenting is one I support. We would not patent plants, we would patent specific genes that WE have developed.
This is good because it will bring regulation to the quality of modification. Patented genes if they cause harm can be traced back to their makers. It will also be an avenue for the generation of much needed funds for research.
Anothertwist to this plot. Why would a developed EU member like Scotland decide to do away with GMOs?Obviously something is up
