Kenya is not, has never been and will never be a republic, where unity of purpose and patriotism reigns supreme over tribalism, nepotism and individualism.
To be accurate to a point, only one thing/event best describes us: 2007. We publicly demonstrated who we are and what lies within the masks we put on every morning as we set out to hit the public scene.
2007 brought out the true image of us, our leaders and the contraption called Kenya.
We can summarize it thus;
Uhuru Kenyatta represented the Agikuyu and Gema at large. He is the saviour who came out to defend them when Odinga’s ‘41 against 1’ wrath was upon their necks. William Ruto was and is still the Kalenjin (and by extension the greater Rift Valley) warrior who saw to it that the madoadoa and modern day ‘wabeberu’ were taught a lasting lesson and cut down to size. Raila Odinga was (and is still) the Jatelo of the Kavirondo who had an uphill task to wrong all the rights committed against his brothers and sisters from the land of Lwanda Magere. Kalonzo was the undisputed king of the calm and peaceful Ukambani people who only adore ‘kamuti and kiveti’ and always ready to be peacemakers rather than warmongers. Every other ethnic group, whether small or large, had their own alpha leader, who ensured they had a route to follow as we worked hard to dismantle this contraption that had always been called ‘the most peaceful nation on earth’. Until the rest of the inhabitants of the sister to Venus and Mars discovered otherwise.
