Traffic jams in Nairobi may soon be a thing of the past after the arrival of mass transit buses in the city on Thursday.

A test drive of the buses on Mombasa Road, through the city centre and to the Kencom bus terminus caused a stir among Nairobi residents, who marvelled at the especially long vehicles.

The buses are likely to boost hopes among commuters that a plan to introduce a mass rapid transportation system incorporating light railway and buses to decongest the city would soon become a reality.

We need more efficient commutter trains - period.

We do not have the infrastructure and driving discipline on our roads to sustain this new project . Hata afadhali basi za gorofa.

That’s like saying putting more matatus will decongest the city

Ass-pincher bus.
If you stand in the middle section of the bus with your back leaning on rubber wall ,you can get the most painful ass pinch ever, depending on how the bus is moving.

UPUSS HII UTAKAA KWA JAM HE WHOLE DAY

Kenya should shift the administrative city to Nakuru, ama Eldoret, ama Kisumu, ama Mombasa, ama Bungoma na huko. All govt offices ziende huko, including ministries and parastatals. Ama ziwekwe kwa different cities. Upper Hill peke yake itapata nafasi kubwa enough na watu watahama wakwende kabisaaaaaaa. Hii kelele ni mingi sana.

Clearly you do not understand the BRT concept

BRT cannot work in nairobi without priority lanes in place. It’s just going to be regular buses. BRT has to be syncronised and come with timetables for various route.

Unless they give these buses right of way n other regulations, its a limp attempt

We just need to invest in a good rail system to connect the upcoming or already existing settlements around Nairobi. This rapid bus nonsense won’t cut it unless they add them and remove matatus and buses ,which isn’t gone be the case.
A step forward right now is to control registering matatus, we have more than is needed. When in town see how many are parked causing havoc calling for passengers.

The real reasons these buses are working in Dar is that, the roads in Dar have been structured to create lanes for these buses to and flo.No any other vehicle uses the these lanes.Still the system of getting the tickets is somehow automatic whereby after getting it it has to be verified by a machine for you to be allowed in the terminals.Tickets are of the same price and when paying, you need the exact money,Tsh 650.Hapa maneno ya change hakuna. There are so many terminals in these lanes where passengers are picked and dropped.Don’t forget that other Matatus are still plying in their lanes.Still the buses are favoured by the city of Dar being flat in most of the areas. To be honest hapa TZ imetuchapa kwa hizo buses.
