Quick answer to someone who wants to know the difference between ira, thegeme, ngoikoni and mũũnyũ.

Ira is white clay which was sources from kĩrĩma kĩa ira near Nanyuki, Initiates had to apply ira during the circumcision

Ngoikoni is soft yellow stone. It was a war paint and was only used in Kĩbaata dance and during war. It was sourced from Gaki(Nyeri).

Mũũnyũ is saline earth. Manly for cattle but sometimes used to whiten the body for certain dances

Thegeme was a stone powder used in decorating shields and dance ornaments. It was not applied on the body.

Mbũrũ is yellow ochre.

Thĩrĩga is red ochre
