Juzi nimeitwa bash na mrembo flani, a young gen z. Her mother had flown over from Kenya. She sponsored her so I guess we were to welcome her. She also has an older brother here. This girl once told me that she absolutely hates her father. Hamtambui completely. I think the dad got sacked once and things have not been going so well financially for him which led to the strife. Kwa hao nimeshangaa sana kwanza the brother ni kutembea tu hapo na pombe analipuka vibaya sana na kufanya ile dance ya anguka nayo kila saa. Ni kijana aliwacha shule na anapenda sherehe sana. Just being loud and rowdy infront of your parent. Yaani this was a house party with alcohol and dancing kama tu zile za campus. I left early but naskia pia mathee yeye nikudance pia alikua anadance. I dont want to judge but nimekuja kuona enyewe people we were raised very differently. Another gen z girl we went with said huyu mama ni ‘vibe’ na anaelewa life and that she’s a baddie and in my head I was like WTF, this is actually chaos.
Maybe I am an old fashioned guy and I am just getting old and being overtaked by a certain cultural shift but all I got from this is how important a solid and strict parent child relationship is especially a father figure. I don’t know, maybe I am quite literally an elder here.
I also hate house parties, in fact of late I don’t like drinking, ni kuzeeka elder. Not old fashioned but kuzeeeka. ni maisha ulishakapitia and it is not part of you again. So elewa to hao watu.
