Tales of Vesperia
It’s a great game, but it is padded the fvck out. It will drip-feed its mechanics. I would recommend playing this on a handheld like the Nintendo Switch or Android. The reason is, it’s a chill game that you can play for an hour or two here and there during your free time and eventually finish it in a few weeks or months.
Lost In Random
A short game with a unique combat system. It involves throwing dice, and the number rolled determines your weapon and how many actions you can take. It’s not turn-based if that’s what you’re thinking. It’s got bits of that British humour too.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
This is the best piece of entertainment I’ve consumed this year. That includes movies and tv shows. It also has a banger OST. This is already a cult classic if you ask me.
If you get a dopamine hit from executing successful parries, this game nails the feeling PERFECTLY.
Tunic
It’s ok… It’s Dark Souls if Dark Souls were a dungeon crawler.
ATV Drifts & Tricks Definitive Edition (Yes, this old game)
Occasionally, I like to relive the old Xbox 360 days.
Dragon Quest XI S; Echoes of an Elusive Age
What a great game this is. A fantastic turn-based JRPG that’s so fucking colourful. If you like the vibrant colours of the Mana games, then this is an easy recommendation.
Stellar Blade
I got baited by the gooner reviews. There is an ok game in there somewhere. It can be tedious for a completionist. The sequel should be better, I hope.
Scars Above
Short ten-hour experience. The hardest difficulty will give you the Dark Souls II experience, i.e ambush and ganks. The bosses are disappointing, though.
Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel
Mindless fun.
Borderlands 2
More Mindless fun
High on Life
Even more mindless fun, but with edgy jokes this time.
Ender Lillies: Quietus of the Knights
This is a 2D action platformer, so you can almost tell that the music is great here. The dark, gloomy feel and atmosphere are a plus.
Black Myth: Wukong
I was putting off playing this game because it runs like shit on PS5. After a year of hoping for performance updates, I gave in and played it. And what did these motherfuckers do three weeks after I finished it? They updated the game with a 60fps performance mode.
Ghost of Yotei
It’s one of the best games of the year, definitely. It is absolutely stunning – great game, just not as good as Ghost of Tsushima in terms of story and characters. Ghost of Tsushima’s intro to the title card was lightning in a bottle. Five years later, it still has the best video game prologue.
I just now realised I’ve watched only about five movies this whole year, damn.
