As I have never shagged anyone under 18, I may not be qualified to say this - 16 year olds are too young to give consent.
There is a difference between giving consent and knowing the consequences of consent.
I started wanting p**** from around age 11 but that doesn’t mean I deserved to get it.
Now I know why, how, what for and more importantly what happens after.
This is just an excuse for MPs to marry high school girls as third or fourth wives.
If they reduce it, they should include a Romeo and Juliet clause - over 18 should not shag 16-18.
I just wonder how anyone with kids would support this.

It looks okay but if you’re the parent of a 16yr old who starts experiencing morning sickness all the while imagining she’s got malaria, that’s when reality will hit home coz it will literally be happening right under your roof.

If you took time to understand the motive behind the amendment, you’d avoid the tangent of MPigs and their alleged plot to marry 16-year olds.
The amendment was brought up because of a young couple that engaged in sex while both under 16, got a kid and are married, but the ‘boy’ has been charged and convicted of molesting a ‘minor’. It was consensual and the wife pleaded to the court not to break her young family, to no avail.
Truth is that adolescents are sexually active at an increasingly early age. The number 18 is not a realistic one any more.

No. There’s a difference between age of consent and age of majority. On the other hand, there are some countries that give national I/Ds to 14-year olds.

Law proposes reduction of consensual sex age from 18 to 16
Federation of Women Lawyers chairperson Josephine Mong’are told the Star that the amendment seeks to protect the boy child.
“The boy child has become the unintended victim of the Sexual Offences Act. A lot of teenagers are in relationships without their parents knowledge.
