I agree. History will vindicate him. He may have made a misstep in dealing with the land issue circa 2000, but the good he did organizing a guerilla movement to rid the country of the white minority rule far outweighs his missteps.

I agree with the staying in office part. This guy should have retired circa 2000. But the circumstances with which he came to power (through a war of liberation) may have hardened him as a man. He is essentially a product of the political system in Zim before independence.
If you look at history, very few people who have fought a liberation struggle give up power voluntary. In our time, we just need to look across the border at Uganda

Remember when he was getting honorary degrees for the pact with the foreign landlords, he was vilified when the time stipulated in the pact wasn’t respected.
And he may have still left the whites with their land but they begun openly supporting the opposition. I think this ticked him off.
Look at a country like Kenya. We still have probably a few thousand whites owning immense land. But you never hear of it or them supporting the opposition. Once their land becomes politicized, that will be the end for them.
