The “untalented” Jaguar
Do you all remember the prime Jaguar? Achana na huyu alikua analia akinyang’anywa ticket ya UDA. Anyway, if there is one artist that I have never understood and how he became so popular and there was a time he was the face of Kenyan Music , it’s Jaguar. The first song I heard of Jaguar was “Nikuskize”. At first, I found the song boring but later it grew into me. Kijana ya Ogopa Deejays became talk of the town when he released Kigeugeu a song that the then Makadara MP Mike Sonko was a video vixen. The song talked about betrayal. Hii debe ilikua inaskizwa kila mahali. From church, bars, matatus to vinyozi. It was listened by toddlers to wazee walking with mikwaju. The song looked simple sana but ilisonga kusonga.
Then he released Kioo. Another massive song that was played everywhere. Even a 5 year old kid could sing word to word. Ulikua unaskia, “Maisha ni kama safari, na yangu ishang’oa nanga…”…hapo unajua nikubaya. Kipepeo was also a banger that I know most of you can sing word to word. Hata sijaongelea once centimeter away that earned him a collabo with Iyanya. Jaguar also had a collabo with prime Mafikizolo.
Anyway, as I said, this is one musician that I never understood. He was a very big name in Kenya and East Africa na Mimi nilikua Naona his songs were just ordinary and zinafanana flow. Sijui ni packaging, writing prowess, beats or message that made Jaguar songs so good ama Nini? By the way, he was also good at Showbiz and he picked the Showbiz master Prezzo for a fight haha. Prezzo replied by saying he only knows of Jaguar his car. Hajawai sikia anyone called Jaguar, they later squashed their beef and even did a collabo. Anyway, to date, I still don’t understand Jaguar as a musician.
