Freddy Mayula Mayoni (RIP) was a prolific Composer and Singer.
He was born in Kinshasa (Leopoldville during the colonial era), on rNovember 6, 1946, a brilliant student but passionate about football and music, his father was a diplomat and wanted his son to get a good education.
In 1968 and 1971, he played as a left winger in the first team of AS Vita Club in Kinshasa, he was also selected for the Zaire national team.
He played in Dar es Salaam, then in Belgium (Racing Club de Charleroi and Racing Club de Jette) in Switzerland with FC. Freiburg.
Torn between football and music, he gradually took up the guitar thanks to a friend in Fribourg.
He would later join a Congolese student orchestra ‘Africana’ as a rhythm guitarist.
He had crazy talent, professional footballer, musician, basketball player and handball player.
Back in Kinshasa, he joined TPOK Jazz of Franco Luambo Makiadi who was also his advisor when he was a player in AS Vita.
His song “Chérie Bondowe” was a real hit.
He composed: “Nabali misère”, “Momi” in TPOK Jazz and “Ndaya” with Mpongo Love.
Back in Zaire, he wrote songs for different artists among them Tshala Muana’s “Baninga ye nasi na bali”, a true classic and anthem which is sung in Congolese wedding ceremonies , “L’amour au kilo” and “Bikini”.
The song “Ousmane Bakayoko” is a true masterpiece, a timeless work which he sung with the beautiful Abby Surya.
Following in his father’s footsteps, he settled in Dar es Salaam, where he worked at the Zaire embassy as a diplomat.
When his health deteriorated, he flew to Brussels for treatment but after a long period of illness, he died in Brussels on May 26, 2010 at the age of 64.
He was nominated Best composer in 1974 for the songs “Chérie Bondowe”, in 1979 “Nabali misère” and in 1993 for the song “Ousmane Bakayoko”.
It was he who introduced Malage de Lugendo to Franco Luambo after which Malage joined TP OK Jazz.

Abby Surya Djai began her career in 1984 within Les Redoutables, a group of diva Abeti Masikini.
She did training under her mentor , Dr Nico Kasanda.
Before long, she was constantly requested for collaborations by Koffi Olomide , Papa Wemba , Sam Mangwana , Simaro Lutumba , Pépé Kallé , Tshala Muana , Mbilia Bel , Maika Munan , Suzy Kaseya , Aurlus Mabélé , Mayaula Mayoni , Carlito Lasa , Awilo Longomba and Tabu Ley.
Historically, she is the first and only singer whose voice was courted by all Congolese singers.
She did a memorable collaboration on Mayaula Mayoni’s album with the phenomenal hit “Ousman Bakayoko”
