Elder nishai enda huku on some job 2022, na wacha nikwambie, tuliteseka.

Airport inakaa soko ya Kangemi, with people with duffel bags wanting to change your money to some ā€˜Franc’ currency, wanaongea french, hakuna network, hakuna stima, hakuna barabara, kuna rebels shooting guns aimlessly.

I have never been so happy to be back home.

The scramble for Africa continues…
By the way.. zile world wars were the nations pale Europe fighting for the resources in Africa ama?

Hapana.

WW1 was caused by an arms race, countries were expanding their militaries so they formed defensive treaties. Britain, Russia & France walikuwa pamoja whilst Germany, AustriaHungary & Italy walikuwa team ingine.

Then this one day some Archduke of Austria was shot dead in Bosnia, in an act of freedom-fighting rebellion against the Austrian government.
This was interpreted as an attack on Austria na hivyo ndio wakaita mbogi yao ya kina Germany and the other team ya kina Britain pia wakaitana.

And that’s how WW1 started. It lasted about 4 years. 1914 to 1919.

So kina Britain won and Germany was blamed for the war juu they were the strongest kwa hio team yao and if they didn’t fight, there really wouldn’t have been a war.

As punishment, they had to pay reparations. They had to

  1. Pay a lot of money, A LOT, sio mchezo.
  2. Give up about 15% of their territory.
  3. Give up some of its colonies. (Hapa ndio Tanzania went from being a German colony to a British colony)
  4. Reduce it’s military.

This was agreed upon in what is called the 1919 Treaty of Versailles.

Thanks, I see.

As a result of the treaty of Versailles, the German economy essentially collapsed and died, pesa ikakua worthless because they had to print money to pay the Treaty money, they lost their industrious territories. It was bad. The German people were hopeless and weakened, which is what the treaty was designed to do.

Enter Mr Adolf Hitler, who loved his nation and had fought in WW1. He couldn’t imagine how far his nation had fallen. So after masaibu kathaa za life, akaona ni vizuri aingie siasa, na akaingia, akaambia watu he will ā€œMake Germany Great Againā€ na enyewe watu walikuwa wamesuffer, so wakamuaminia. With time, he made his way to the top, by 1933, and gave himself ultimate power.

He said Fuck you to the treaty, akaanza ku industrialize, rebuilt the German army, gave people jobs and the economy improved. The people loved him.

But his economy was a war economy, and without war, it would have collapsed again. By 1939 his economy was overheating, so he had to create a war to avoid economic collapse.

In September 1939, He invaded Poland with his brand new shiny powerful army, as a test, na walipita nayo kama train bro. Poland fell in about one month. So they would capture a country, loot it, send money and gold back to Berlin and use the captured industries and free labour to build more war machines. Germany’s economy was now booming.
Next they reclaimed ile 15% land taken by the treaty by France.

Then to keep the war economy going, he just kept on invading and getting stronger.
Next was Denmark, then Norway, then Netherlands, then Belgium, then France and many more.

He was clever enough not to invade Britain and Stalin’s Soviet Union but ni kama in 1942 kichwa iliruka akaamua he will attack USSR. Why? Because he can.

And that was the beginning of the end. The Allies Britain and Russia came through, and he was now fighting on two sides.

Then Japan bombed Pearl Harbour, a US navy outpost, bangi za Hitler zikamuonyesha he has to declare war on the US, now he had 3 enemies.

Kupambana alipambana yenyewe as one country, but 3 enemies are too many, eventually in 1945 walilemewa and that was the end of WW2. Also the Americans had to drop the nukes on Japan to get them to quit fighting.

Hitler did a pretty decent job at fighting mostly alone considering he had even expanded the war to Northern Africa. His ally ilikuwa Italy which was weak, he had to postpone his plans severally to go save them from the allies.

End of WW2

It’s a friendly place if you find a local. Currently most biz ni rahisi ukijoin hands na local coz it’s the only way to do biz. Tech and engineering hapa ni pesa balaa. All you got to do is have the guts, and money. Places like Lubumbashi na Kolwezi you can literally make millions if you know your way around the place.

That happened to me nikiingia Lubumbashi first time. Left the airport at 7:45pm. An hour later and rebels walikuwa wanaingia airport. Close shave… Kamina again, close shave… nilipita mahali walipita the night before wakaacha a trail of death and destruction. Angolan soldiers and UN walisaidia tukakaa barracks zao a few days mpaka the coast was clear
Sasa ile siku nikaamua kurudi Kinshasa, pale Mbuji Mayi airport a soldier alinipoint na AK roho safi na kuitisha pesa juu apparently viatu zangu zilikua zinakaa za military. Was just timbs but with steel toes. Took a call from HQ ya company nilikua nafanyia kazi in kinshasa to tell him that he was about to mess.
First time it took me like 6months to get over that trauma. Bibi alikua anashindwa huyu jamaa kwani kuliendaje.
