A rare tropical cyclone is approaching Tanzania and could become the first cyclone to make landfall in the nation in modern records.

Tropical Cyclone Jobo, located near Madagascar in the South Indian Ocean, is currently equivalent to a strong tropical storm with winds just shy of 100 kph (62 mph).

Although Jobo is churning over the very warm waters (29°C), other environmental conditions should hinder any further development, weakening the storm prior to making landfall late this weekend.

I hope it doesn’t make landfall. a hit to Dar and zanzibar would pull TZ back to the stoneage

There have been tropical cyclones in Tanzania in the past. What you mean the first??? The only place that is immune 100% to tropical cyclone is Kenya because our country is smack center at the equator. Due to basic laws of physics, a cyclone cannot form at the equator.

I thought a cyclone cannot form on the equator due to the Coriolis effect. It’s more of a geographical phenomenon

Sometimes the cyclones and hurricanes turn direction. Hopefully Kwale County is prepared. But knowing how local leaders are, Mvurya is scratching his belly waiting to watch EPL games not even caring
