Caterpillar is still the biggest excavator company in the world
They manufacture them in batches. In one they churn out 6 machines
Sany uses a variety of engines on their excavators including Kubota, Isuzu, Cummins, and Yanmar. Kubota: The latest Sany excavators use Kubota engines which are reliable and fuel-efficient.
Heavy equipment are powered by Cummings engines. The excavator you posted there, Kubota engine can’t power it, isuzu engine won’t either.

Sany is powered by Cummins engine. Also Tata trucks. They say cummins are the best engines in the world.
Boats are powered by Yanmar, volvo and Isuzu engines.
Those will do, but for those Heavy-duty one Sany relies on Cummings engines.
Isuzu can power mid level equipment while Kubota will be ideal for smaller equipment.
When we come to steel, Sany relied on the American steel, not sure if Chinese steel has caught up.
The next question that we ask in regards to excavators, which are very similar to robots, is the software platform they run on.
A quick search on Google landed me on this.
Automation software for excavators, often referred to as “machine control” systems, includes options like Leica iCON iXE3, Trimble Earthworks, Cat Assist Technology, Xsite Machine Control (from MOBA), Dig Assist (from Volvo CE), and Built Robotics Exosystem
It means, for one to build an excavator, you need to acquire software, good quality steel, engine, and various engineers.
So, with all the corruption money thay flies around in .ke, how hard can it be to assemble the above. For instance, how far can ksh104 billion that was used in SHA/SHIF take us in aquiring the necessary ingredients for Industrialization ?, and not necessarily building excavators.

The engine on an excavator does not drive the tracks directly. It drives a huge hydraulic pump that powers the entire machine. From raising the bucket to driving planetary gears at the front of every track.
