President Uhuru Kenyatta has appointed David Kimaiyo as non-executive chairman of the Kenyatta National Hospital board.
A gazette notice published on Friday showed that the former Inspector General of Police will hold the seat from April 18 to March 17, 2019.
The president has also appointed former Attorney General Githu Muigai as chair of the Council of Legal Education for three years effective April 18.
Uhuru further appointed former Karachuonyo MP James Rege as chairperson of the Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Limited board of directors.
Ex-Interior PS Mutea Iringo, in the notice, has been named the chairperson of National Cereals and Produce Board.
Uhuru also appointed Kazungu Kambi to be the chairperson of the Coast Development Authority for three years effective April 18.
Edwin Yinda (former Alego Usonga MP) was appointed to be the chairperson of the Information Communication Technology Authority for three years.
Uhuru also appointed Bernard Mungata to be the chairperson of Industrial and Commercials Development Corporation (ICDC) for three years effective April 18.
“The appointment of Francis Kimemia has been revoked,” the notice reads in part.
The president also appointed Erastus Mwongera to be the chairperson of the Kenya National Highways Authority.
James Ndegwa was appointed to be the chairperson of the board of Capital Markets Authority for three years starting April 18.
Anchor Githu, who took over from Amos Wako in August 2011, resigned as Attorney General in February. The reason for his resignation is yet to be established.
Kimaiyo, on the other hand, was the first Inspector General of Police following the promulgation of the Kenya Constitution in 2010. The new dispensation did away with the position of Police Commissioner.
Kimaiyo’s appointment comes in the wake of upheavals over the sorry state of services at KNH – the country’s main referral hospital.
The board recently suspended CEO Lily Koros and director of clinical services Bernard Githae over surgery on a wrong patient.
In the latest changes, Mark Bor has been appointed to be the chairperson of the board of Moi Teaching and Referral hospital for three years.
Uhuru also appointed Philip Kaloki to be the chair of the board of management for three years.
REAPPOINTMENT
Uhuru re appointed Ngene Gituku to be the chairperson Communications Authority of Kenya.
He also reappointed Henry Obwocha chairperson of the Privatisation Commission for three years whereas John Ngumi has been retained as Kenya Pipeline Company chairman.
