The bookings are spread across the year starting October 28 when the first ever direct commercial flight from Nairobi to New York will take off.

Kenya Airways’ sales director, Julius Thairu, in an interview, said the inaugural flight alone is already more than 80 per cent full.

“To date we have over 7,000 bookings for the New York route with expected cabin factor of above 80 per cent for the inaugural flight. We are entering the booking window and expect to take off with a much higher occupancy,” said Mr Thairu.
KQ opened the direct flight bookings in January to allow passengers plan on their travels ahead of time.
.
The airline’s chief executive officer, Sebastian Mikosz, told Parliament in June that the booking had been low since reservations were opened, but remained optimistic sales would pick up from this month.

Ehehe tlambu is fighting China

Hizo flights zitakuwa full zote. ETH, KLM, QTR, UAE wakauke Kiasi. How long is that flight?

South Africa, Ethiopia, Egypt,Ghana, Senegal and many other shit African countries have been flying to the US straight for many years.
Why is Kenya behaving like they are the 1st in Africa to be granted that status?

15 hours.

I think ni ka tu vile new villagers hapa hupita na lanye then week mzima hatuwes pata amani na usingizi.

15hrs, what the heck. My ex aki fly kutoka Dallas to Dubai anadai 16hrs. How comes from New York to irovi ni 15 hrs ?

Dallas is 1500 miles due south west of New York.

Great news KQ. Direct flight from JKIA to New York. No stops in Europe or West Africa.

Ethiopia gani hufly directly to New york Tilamp land?

us itatutomba proper. expect more security experts and consultants in kenya. more leaders are being recruited as cia assets in kenya. china is demanding its fair share after sustaining muthamaki in power since 2013. us wanataka share yao pia or else kenya goes Nigeria way

Thought Ethiopia goes through Canada. Could be wrong though.

ET flies to Ireland first then usa. That’s another 6 hrs minimum added. Add another 3hrs flying to Addis and more hours to connect there. KQ has always used direct flights and quicker connections to rival ET.

7,000 bookings yet the single plane is only 80% full?

If KQ properly markets this route it will be a big boost for the airline and the country.

Most of them have to touch europe first before finalising in the US of A

Bookings zimetapakaa over a period of weeks to months ahead…

Ethiopian Air is not a shit airline… Actually its ranked best in Africa

The destination of ET to US matters with the price. Through Togo if you pay the $1005. Through Canada /Dubai at $1200.

Uwongo. Ghana and Senegal don’t have airlines. KQ is their unofficial “national airline”

Direct flights to the US are a very big deal even if people are dismissing that.

US has recently overtaken European visitors to become Kenya’s largest source of tourists. Not only is this a big boost for the local tourism sector due to the decreased cost of travel for the tourists. North American people who usually travel to other East African countries TZ, Rwanda, UG may now fly through Kenya as well.
