Ug destination phones stolen in Ke

i have had a pre-touch screen samsung smartphone for over ten years. when new it was top of the range and one of its security features was sim-change alert.

Now this phone was stolen last august whereupon an OB was obtained. Was told to wait for it to emerge somewhere. wondered who would buy such an antiquated item, thought it would be discarded somewhere marshy, maybe Nairobi river banks. Today I received a sim change alert from an MTN Uganda number.

Can this phone be recovered and thieves caught? Why? to get the satisfaction of seeing a phone theft ring disrupted.

Not worth the hustle involved unless someone was killed

I thought you just report it halafu imei inakua blocked?

blocking imei or ignoring and moving on too easy. old man is curious about cross-border crime and considering going all the way and cause trouble for those petty thieves and have them look over their shoulder rest of their lives. Asked around. Was told there are ‘depots’ that receive phones stolen from all over where they try to replace imei, repackage phones and export. Was told to talk to local interpol. …

Interpol are not your 50 bob bribe taking police. Kabla Interpol waingilie that case, utakuwa umeshinda vigilance house explaining why DCI hawawezi fuatilia hiyo case, and serious money has to exchange hands ndio waitwe.

All for what? Your ego? Hufiki bei ya interpol boss!!

appreciated advise, officialese may be a waste of time. and maybe networks will work. crime is rampant because we have accepted it to be a part of life, if your lose a trinket, kunja mkia then go to the market to buy another. the cycle of life.

Hapa ni cost benefit analysis… You spend too much money and energy, all that for what? Just buy a new one and move on

Around last year, my stolen phone was tracked at Mt Elgon(by a friend of mine who is CID)…guy told me niwaachana naye ishavuka Uganda…
Unless you have network with Uganda CID(which you have to travel there many times)…plus the costs…itabidi uwachane naye
