The rise of custom chips in the mobile phone industry

Apparently, Google has developed a custom chip for the next pixel phones - so no more Qualcomm chipsets on Pixel phones. Xiaomi is also at the final stages of developing a chipset for its phones - The Surge S2. Xiaomi already has the Surge S1 but that chip wasn’t really designed for phones

Samsung and Huawei have made great strides in developing their ARM-based custom chips. Exynos 2100 came very close to eclipsing the performance of SD 888. People have always hated Exynos Chips. But that is likely to change in the near future! If BBK group decides to make custom chips, then the mobile chipset industry will become very fragmented.

What does this mean?

One of the challenges of using only Qaulcomm and Mediatek chips, is the limited ability to deeply integrate software with hardware. Android OS seems fragmented as every manufacturer tries to install their own custom UI on their phones. But if the manufacture controls the chipset, is involved in development of Android, and develops their own UI, we are likely to see awesome devices in the near future.

Google Pixel 6 will make a strong case for development of custom chipsets. Expect long battery life (Not batter size), better cameras, and faster devices. Apple will get true competition!

Btw Nyamgondho Wuod Ombare will purchase the Pixel 6 if it comes with a custom chip. The future looks bright.
