It is easy to complain about Chinese loans when we choose to ignore what used to happen before, when loans mostly came from Western countries. Most of the cash, if not all, would disappear between Europe and Africa, and would later find its way back to Europe. Many paid-for projects were never completed, but African countries would end up repaying the loans plus interest. For China, even with the kickbacks to recipient government officials , you can see what the money was used for. If previous loans from Western governments had been used for the intended purposes, African would be less reliant on Chinese loans.
