Starting a Supermarket Chain/Massive Wholesale Business

How much does it take to start a scalable supermarket or wholesale business that can grow over time into a chain/massive wholesale business over time, what are the pitfalls, challenges, opportunities?.

Money and not dreams

Money, manpower, time, technological innovation, management prowess, good luck and hardwork… in no particular order of priority…

You will need expertise in loss preventions and inventory control. Staff na customers wanawezakufagia ushangae.

You need to start very very small chief. Do you know Gilanis in Nakuru started way back in 50 - 60’s?

Scale is relative. But let me give some few figures. Double sided shelves cost @ least Kshs. 30,000. One way cashier counters at least 45,000. The large display chillers about Kshs.350,000. A standard safe at least Kshs. 140,000 and so forth and so forth . Large supermarkets need quite a bit ; Kshs. 20m plus… But you could start smaller.

If the opportunity exists a wholesale could be a better idea.

Will crunch the numbers for both when I get some time .
