Datacamp

I have subscribed… Very comprehensive! Asante!

When I started learning SQL, it was from youtube. Some videos explain it really well, and it’s easier to understand how it works. You could also try to get in some telegram groups. People are always friendly and ready to help if you have an issue. Datacamp is also important to know, so consider looking at it too. Lastly, you could ask to be a volunteer in some SQL ide. It’s suitable for practical knowledge. This way, you see how everything works in real life, how problems are fixed, or what exactly people find hard to understand and solve, so you don’t make the same mistakes.

Programming is number one on my bucket list

go for python

Why not Java?

I can already tell una xp in this area…

Not so much but we studied the comparisons in a Campus course… So, why would one choose Python over Java? Yet Java is the language on many IoT machines and even the popular Android O/S?

well…java is old, python has a wider use range and very nice libraries

Can one develop and android application in Python?

By the way, you need to specify by what you mean by SQL… Because, SQL is a conceptual term for Relational Database Language… For example, just to name a few, ORACLE, MS ACCESS, MySql, DBase IV, MSSQL, etc are relational database Systems and use SQL to manipulate the data stored in them… If you want to be good in SQL, Start by understanding Set Theory, then Systems Analysis, then Database Design concepts, then you will be excellent in any SQL Database System… By the way, even on Ktalk, there is a database to store our user names and passwords at least… ERPs always have a database behind them, most are SQL, but there are a few that are not SQL based. Where do you want to apply this knowledge? In web site design or bespoke systems development?

Basically meaning I’d not really benefit by just starting off on datacamp?

I am sure you will benefit… What do you intend to achieve… Studying SQL alone is not sufficient… SQL is back-end and therefore you will require more skills to make use this knowledge, for example Java/ Python/ HTML/ JavaScript, CSS, etc which will work on the front-end and UX and also on the back-end to retrieve, manipulate and store data in the SQL database… So, you need to make a determination on what your end result of your training will be… Do you want to b a Web Developer? If so, then HTML/ CSS should be your starting point but if you have this skill, then you need to have JavAscript/ PHP before making use of SQL… But it does not mean that such knowledge of SQL is useless, only that it is more useful in the next levels of development…
