Shiney eye to Maasai transformation.

I was inspired to post this by a thread I just went through a few hours ago. The rumours or the fact(if true) that many prominent Maasai men in the past have been naturally shiney eyes who changed their ethnicity and became naturalised Maasai. The examples we heard in the past were Prof Saitoti, Ole Ntimama and Simeon Lesirma. Then of late I heard rumours that the fire-spitting Ole Kina is a mungich from Othaya. How is this possible? Can a Mutiso from Mayakos just go to Migori and fully change his identity and become an Otieno?

Ask Alfred Mutua…

Is he a Jaruo?

Junet Mohammed is undergoing a metamorphic process of becoming a Luo in Migori.

Rumours to that effect, though the mother denied it the other day.
But again, a positive confession from from her would ruin her son’s political career…
I DON’T THINK SHE WOULD DO SUCH A THING.

Ethnicities were very fluid in days gone by. A good example during raids you raided women and their kids in addition to cowss. Those children raided from Ukambani became Maasai.

Some people were also assimilated. You are circumcised and assigned age group, family and clan and given cattle. You become a Maasai.

Simmilarly due to hunger and famine some Maasai Migrated and became Okuyu. A good example is Waiyaki was Hinga who was a Maasai called Koiyaki. Ole Tumetuk.

The Late Reverend James ole Kashorda who died at 100 years was born in Kikuyu Land and believed he was a Kikuyu. Then one day the father had an accidental with an unexploded ordinance when digging in Karen area and he heard the Kikuyus saying that the kamumasai has been lipuliwad. He ran to save the dad then later he asked the father if they were Maasai. The father said yes and told him they had migrated due to famine. He then demanded they go back to Maasailand and they went and became a leading Maasai Family.

During Maasai Civil war many of the Laikipia migrated to hide amongst neighbouring tribes. When they later returned they were labeled foreigners by people like you. In Meru there were Maasai speakers until very recently. Kirugi Mmukindia an Imenti has middle name Laiboni. That is Maasai origin. In Meru they call a bull or a real man Laingo while in Maasai a bull or total man I called Laingoni. There is a Maasai clan in Kajiado Central called Kangere who are derided as Merus by other Maasai.

The Talai clan of the Kalenjin was descended from Maasai Laibons. The Teriks of Nandi are accused if being Baluhya by other Nandi.

The Kabras are warlike and vey tall, some say they are of Kalenjin origin.

In Luoland the Odinga are Wangas who settled in Sakwa. There are Luo clans like Umani who are called Luhyas upto today e.g. the Gem MP. Elisha Odhiambo. Someone like Prof. Magoha is a Luo but name should be Makokha a Luhya

Amongst the Somali the Garre of Mandera are accused of being Boranas. Their dialect is a bit different from other Somali.

Never would she do it if she cared for his political career

Junet’s case is different. He has never tried to hide his Somali identity or to change his ethnicity to become a Luo. He always identifies himself as a Somali who grew up in Nyanza but representing the interests of his current residence. Same case with the Laikipia East MP Ally Mohammed and the late Luo MCA of Kiambu county who passed away recently

my friend , why can’t you write a book or find a way to save this wisdom… our kids need this knowledge…

Nice information.

People should embrace the identity of their place of bath so long as they are going to spend most of their lives at that place. If you are born in mumias you will end up speaking kiluhyia just like the locals and most likely smashing ugali kama mluhya.

Now this is a great peace of information, it is said that most Nyerians have maasai blood in them.

Beautiful comment. Very unusual in today’s Kenyatalk to learn something new in a comment.

Thanks for the Education.

@Masood we are who were are because of the environment. Ukabila ndio imekuwa ikisaidia kuchagua our thiefing politicians.
