Satellite Finder

Any talker selling Satellite finders? Looking to get the GT MEDIA V8 Satellite Finder or any other satellite finder villagers can recommend.

I ordered for one on Kilimall yesterday. It is shipping from overseas, not locally, via a store called maijar, which I stumbled upon while lurking through the threads here. It was tempting to go for the BT03 one, which pairs up with a smartphone via bluetooth and has some nice features like blindscan and list of channels, but I instead settled for something less fancy and cheaper, this one. From a lot of homework that I’ve done, it became apparent that they come in a wide range of styles and prices. A local seller that gets mentioned a lot in this forum is Riwara Electronics, based in Nairobi’s Luthuli (Google for directions and contacts), but my last communications with them revealed they had a combo T2/S2 meter that was going for 8k! I bought my supplies from them and they shipped to my location (Western Kenya), except the meter. It seems the major limiting factor here is the size of your wallet. Some models cost as high as 60K while some as low as <1K. Reading others’ experiences here, it seems the cheaper/less fancy you go, the more work you need to put in to lock onto the desired satellite. Some of them are just outright inaccurate, screaming carelessly in whichever direction you point your dish towards. They have been nicknamed “screamers” :D. The fancier it gets, the pricier it is and the easier it will be to nab those birds. Some even have a large screen that displays the incoming video! With a little skill, practice, patience and precision, the less fancy ones will do the job just fine. I thought I could do without one and instead use the signal information on the TV screen, but after two days of the greatest test my patience has ever endured, I finally bit the bullet and ordered for one. I thought of hiring one from a DSTV or such installer, but figured a one-time visit from them would cost me more than buying one of my own. It’s going to be quite a wait before it arrives, at least two weeks, but it will be worth it!

Man, that was a wealth of info in such a short post, appreciated. Would you happen to remember the name of the combo T2/S2 meter? The prices I have been quoted for combo meters were insane!

Hii ni better than my old one, it supports multistream that is s2x
And HEVC video format

Here’s the image of the combo meter they sent me via Whatsapp on 27th November. A closer look shows the model number SF-560 and the closest match I found is on AliExpress here https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32803521200.html for clearer photos. Of course, Riwara guys could send you a clearer photo. Chat em up via their phone number. It’s listed on Google.

This are the screemer ones. I had one I had to upgrade let him just buy directly online and he will get value for his money. There is one by freesat that connects through Bluetooth it is better

Agreed. 8K is too much for a satellite finder (it seems like a good bargain locally for a combo model though), even though there are “pro” models that are even more expensive, but come on, that money could be put to better use! Almost all of them are screamers though, they have a buzzer that screams! Freesat rebranded to GT Media in 2018. Any 2019 model that still calls itself Freesat is most likely a fake/copy.

You are right but which sat finder is 8k? Mine wasn’t bought in 2018/19 check freesat website they have clearly stated the difference between a fake v8 finder and a genuine one. This is a 5k sat finder and much better I know the Bluetooth one by freesat(gt media) since you want me to use the name, should be not more than 2k even on kilmall. Remember kuna hata sat finder ya 30k that has a spectrum analyzer so if someone is serious 5k sio mob bearing in mind kuna sahii hata decoder za 10k and people are buying them some annually when new features pop up.

You can also inquire from @Giggz he is very resourceful in that area.

The combo one for both terrestrial and satellite signal tracking, you know, the one OP is interested in and was given insane quotes for, sold by Riwara Electronics locally. Check previous replies, you seem to have glazed over it. Yes, it’s important to get the brand name right when recommending products to folks, especially when talking about newer models that are “better” than their predecessors, because there are fakes out there as well and these days they cost the same as the real thing, so to unsuspecting folks, leading them to the right thing is important, (regardless of cost, which is subjective anyway) don’t you think?

But I think I used pictures which gives an accurate description. However I saw the combo price even on the aliexpress link provided being extremely high bearing in mind that you have to power it from the decoder.
