Legendary Congolese guitarist Denis Lokassa Kasiya, popularly known as Lokassa ya Mbongo, died Tuesday night in the US after a long illness.
Lokassa , who recently turned 80, was the band leader of popular formerly Paris-based Soukous Stars band.
The Paris-based supergroup consisted of guitarist Lokassa Ya Mbongo , vocalist Ballou Canta , guitarist Dally Kimoko, vocalist Shimita El Diego , vocalist Zitany Nell , and bassist Ngouma Lokito formed in 1989.
Denis was a Legend. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and fans during this difficult time. May they find comfort in knowing that Lokassa’s music will always be cherished and remembered. Rest in peace, Lokassa ya Mbongo.
