Places to visit and stay around Nairobi

Due to circumstances (lockdown, …), it wasn’t possible to do the trip here. Since then, a lot has happened that calls for a little ‘resting’. Unfortunately, its not possible to make the trip on the previous thread or to any other far places (probably some of you have already put two and two ).

In that case, what are some good (and affordable) places not far from the city for a 2nights getaway? Budget is 5k/night. Tried checking the likes of thesmithhotels but it doesn’t seem to cut it out (or there’s not much info available online).

Oh, and anywhere with a good spa and/or massage parlour (not for me though ) is an added advantage.

Msee ingia airBnB( https://www.airbnb.com/ ), utapata places fiti vibaya. Alafu story za massage google, hao wasee wakukumassage wanaweza kuja pahali ulipo…

Update: Just bumped into osnet garden which doesn’t look bad. Any reviews?

Place looks good, but at $72 a night and minimum stay of 5nights,… Plus it seems booked till Jan 2021

Two things to consider:

  1. Apartment blocks are becoming quite popular and built with great standard.
Westlands, Lavington, Kileleshwa and Kilimani are great neighborhoods if apartments (1-4 bedroom) are your kind of thing. These neighborhoods are also close to modern malls that are quite similar to those found in the US and Europe, albeit smaller.
The downside to this is that in almost all these places, the feel of being in a ‘concrete jungle’ is everywhere. Traffic is also a big issue in these neighborhoods although one might argue that this is true everywhere in Nairobi.

  2. If you are looking for space, then Karen, Runda, Muthaiga, Nyari and Spring Valley are all great neighborhoods. Plenty of greenery and space in these areas with huge, lovely homes.

From these, I’d say the safest neighborhoods would be Westlands and Muthaiga for each of the categories.
