There was drama at a flat in Tel Aviv estate in Embakasi, Nairobi, after tenants led the eviction of their neighbour over loud music.
The tenant, Bush Otieno, accused Paul Ondieki, the caretaker, of bringing “armed strangers” to spy on his expensive system before organising to steal it.
“Tomorrow is Tuesday and it is already 11pm, we cannot sleep because of the noise,” lamented Mama Candy, his next-door neighbour.
“No one buys a music system and plays it in the loo, I am testing my new home theatre and these intruders must give me a break,” Bush shouted back, adding that he did not set the volume, but it was part of the system.
Bush, who operates a shop in Pipeline, accused the caretaker and his neighbours of being jealous with his new home theatre and challenged them to work hard and buy their own.
“This is pure jealousy. I don’t manufacture these systems, neither do I set their volumes to 100 max. If people have a problem with the volume of the system, they should go to the manufacturers and not my house,” he said.
Meshack Odhiambo, a friend of Bush joined the fray arguing, that one “cannot live in a place like this. We come from a background where loud and booming music is a swag bwana, you cannot pimia for us oxygen (sic).”
Bush ignored pleas to reduce the volume, forcing the caretaker to switch off his power from the main switch.
A furious Bush left and returned with a power generator because “this is a new system and I had only tested the smaller speakers, now let me test everything with the generator.”
Neighbours were forced to use diplomacy to sort out the tiff with the impasse being resolved after Bush’s power was reconnected.
