In a video seen by Kenyans.co.ke, residents thronged the streets to welcome Echesa who greeted his supporters from the sunroof of a car as it maneuvered its way through the busy streets. Armed with placards, the residents chanted in support of the former cabinet secretary while dancing to the tune of various local songs.

"Karibu mheshimiwa Rashid (welcome sir Rashid) ", read one placard held by a resident as they rushed to the scene in an attempt to bump fists with the former cabinet secretary.

This comes months after he was arrested amid a probe into his role in a Ksh39 billion fake tender deal. Police apprehended Echesa on February 13, 2020, after allegedly getting into a fake contract with foreign investors dealing with military equipment whom he convinced he could help secure a lucrative multi-billion shilling Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) tender for arms and military surveillance technology.

He was accused of using the Office of the Deputy President and the signature, fraudulent or otherwise, of Defence Cabinet Secretary Amb. Monica Juma in a bid to seal the deal. He was along with three other individuals taken to Muthaiga Police Station.

They appeared before Magistrate Ken Cheruiyot and faced twelve counts including conspiracy to commit a felony, making a document without authority, obtaining money by false pretense, and impersonating a public service officer.

A Kenyan villager has a lot of free time. Times are hard. Anything to break the boredom is welcome.

A primary school in Kakamega County was forced to postpone its exams after a toilet caved in burying people alive.

A video on Tuesday, October 27, showed distraught residents in mourning after one person died from the incident in the unidentified institution.

The team was digging the toilet at the institution when it suddenly caved in, burying alive two workers.

A teacher at the institution noted that the deceased was a hardworking individual whose life was cut short by the tragedy.

"The deceased joined them. When I visited the site this morning, I found him lively as he oversaw his colleagues carry on with their work.

“He was hardworking because he did his work fast. While I was doing my work, the PTA chair called me and informed me of an urgent crisis,” stated the teacher.

“Grade four and class eight are supposed to be carrying on with their examinations today but we have suspended it because of this emergency,” he added.

A worker who witnessed the incident disclosed that five farmhands were present. The three who were above ground escaped the collapse while one of the two people inside the pit was rescued.

"We were in the middle of the job when the ground abruptly cracked. There were two people inside the ditch and three were above ground.

One of them was rescued because he was buried halfway. The other one was completely buried,” he narrated.

Police officers from the county were immediately deployed to the area where they aided in the exhumation of the body of the deceased.

An assessment of class eight and grade four pupils is ongoing in primary schools to assess their education level after an eight-month hiatus due to Covid-19 pandemic.

Then we have these dumb criminals… :D:D

Two students from the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) have been charged with stealing Sh24.4 million after hacking NCBA Bank systems between October 20 and October 22. The two IT students were also accused of conspiracy to defraud the bank of over Sh190.7 million after they attempted to move it from the bank’s system.

Antony Mwangi Ngige, 23, and Ann Wambui Nyoike, 21, denied the charges before senior resident magistrate Carolyne Muthoni Njagi at the Milimani Law Courts.

The prosecution alleges that the two worked in collaboration with others who are yet to be arrested.

Interestingly, Mr.Ngige is said to have tipped off the bank of a systems hitch he had discovered on NCBA’s banking app through his Twitter account.

“It is the first accused (Ngige) who initiated his prosecution process by informing bank authorities that there was a hitch in its system,” the magistrate was told by their lawyer.

The bank, however, failed to respond urgently to the tweet and Mr. Ngige took it upon himself and wrote an SMS (a short text message)to the bank about the anomaly” the defense lawyer explained. He said that Mr. Ngige was a whistleblower who had been turned into a suspect.

After receiving the SMS, the bank’s management summoned him on Saturday and once he arrived, he was again asked to report on Monday. He and Ms. Nyoike presented themselves at the bank at which point they were arrested and taken to court.

“I urge this court to release the suspects on a reasonable cash bail of Sh100,000 given that they are students and not financially able to raise a substantial amount,” the lawyer urged Ms Njagi.

The prosecuting lawyer, Ms Winnie Moraa, did not oppose the release on bond but asked for stringent measures due to the huge amounts of money involved.

Ms. Njagi directed Ngige and Nyoike to each deposit a Sh2 million bond with a surety of a similar amount or deposit a Sh500,000 cash bail each.

The case will be mentioned virtually on November 10, 2020.
